Micro-needling is a 100% natural way and fast becoming a favourite choice in rejuvenating the skin
As we get older, fine lines and wrinkles often appear, whilst scars, acne, surgical procedures and blemishes can leave your skin feeling in poor condition too. At Lavien Aesthetics we use two kinds of micro-needling procedures; derma- pen and derma-roller. Derma-pen and Derma-roller use micro- needles which bring a younger appearance to the skin and can help smooth away signs of age and skin damage such as stretch marks. When we talk of rejuvenation we mean to restore the skin back to a more youthful appearance, reducing the ageing process, which is something so many of us are searching for. The treatment can quickly show results (depending on skin) removing problem areas, such as freckles, large pores, loose skin and even dark spots caused by sun damage.
How does Micro-needling work?
Micro-needling is a type of treatment that uses small needles to cause tiny punctures in the skin. These small contact points encourage the body to create a wound healing response through your own plasma coming to the skins surface and renew the skin cells. The whole treatment will aid the repair of the skin cells and increase the production of collagen. As your skin repairs, the production of collagen triggers elastin to give an almost immediate plumping effect. It can also help tackle other skin damage such as scarring, dark marks, sun damage and ageing. The production of collagen and elastin is a natural process of the body to maintain youthful renewed skin. It is important to note that Derma-pen is non-surgical, which is a big positive. It creates micro channels across the skin, allowing nutrients to be absorbed into the skin, resulting in a clearer and a more youthful skin appearance.
Note: The very nature of micro-needling and the tiny skin punctures will mean your skin will bleed ever so slightly. This is an important part of the process because our blood contains plasma. This plasma is a key part in rejuvenating your skin hence we leave the residue on your skin to heal your skin and we advice to refrain from wiping, cleaning your face or using make- up for at least 24 hours after the treatment. When the process is finished the treated areas can therefore be somewhat red and raw looking.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. There aren’t really unsuitable candidates. That being said; if you wish to treat acne scarring and/or other scars: they have to be fully closed. We cannot treat open (acne) scars.
As soon as after your first treatment, you can start to see the results of Micro-needling. Though your skin will likely appear a little red or irritated at first, your skin will quickly feel tighter and noticeably firmer. In terms of the long term, following your treatment, the redness will slowly begin to subside over a matter of days resulting in plumper dewier looking skin. These results will continue to take effect giving you a rejuvenated glow over the coming weeks. For the long term, 4-6 treatments are recommended to provide greater, more impactful results.
The frequency of your treatments will depend on the length of the derma roller’s needles and your skin’s sensitivity. In general when your needles are shorter, you may be able to roll every other day, and if the needles are much longer and you wish multiple treatments, you may need to space out treatments every three to four weeks.

Hyaluronic acid and hydrocortisone crème be used following microneedling, and it’s even recommended in some cases to help stimulate collagen production after your procedure. If your skin is feeling dry, it’s generally safe to apply coconut oil as an emollient to lock in moisture and hydrate your face after microneedling
- Avoid sun exposure for 14 days. Use sunscreen minimum spf30 for 28 days after treatment if the area treated is exposed to the sun. Failure to do this can damage your skin and result in hyperpigmentation.
- Avoid swimming pools, sauna’s, jacuzzi and spa environments for 14 days.
- Do not apply any products to your skin for 14 days, other than the aftercare balm provided.
- Do not apply any essential oils, perfumed products or shower creams to the area. We recommend the use of Sanex Zero, or a gentle cleansing shower gel.
- Change your bed sheets and towels the day of your treatment.
- Keep the area clean and remember it’s a wound site during your healing.
- Do not pick, scratch or rub the treatment area. Avoid touching it unnecessarily.
Understandably, the idea of multiple needles treating the surface of your skin may sound less than appealing to some! That being said, the needles on a micro-needling pen/roller are microscopic, ranging from just 0.5 to 2 millimetres in diameter. The size of the needles used to complete each treatment will be dependent on the size of the area to be treated, as well as how deep or superficial the lines or scars are. Additionally, a topical anesthetic numbing cream will be applied to the skin. Skin numbing creams are an effective source of pain relief to preemptively dull or decrease any discomforting skin sensations you might experience.

Whilst results will differ from person to person, micro-needling has been clinically proven to help reduce the appearance of stretch marks. This is a treatment that can be used not only on the face but on other parts of the body too. This means we can target multiple areas you are unhappy with to gently open the collagen fibers on the skin’s surface, causing them to repair themselves with higher elasticity, therefore appearing noticeably smoother.
